WHEREAS the University of Hong Kong (in this Order called "the University ") is established and incorporated under the University Ordinance, 1911 (in this Order called "the Ordinance ") of the Colony of Hong Kong (in this Order called "the Colony ") and provision is made for the Government of the University by a Chancellor, Court, Council and Senate whose powers are prescribed by the Ordinance and the Statutes set forth in the Regulations of Hong Kong (1937 Edition) (in this Order called "the Statutes "):

AND WHEREAS circumstances have arisen in the Colony by reason of which it is expedient that a Committee should be appointed to exercise certain of the powers of the Chancellor and the Senate under the Ordinance and the Statutes:

NOW, THEREFORE, His Majesty, in exercise of all powers enabling Him in that behalf, is pleased, by and with the advice of His Privy Council, to order, and it is hereby ordered, as follows:-

1.-(1) This Order may be cited as the Hong Kong University (Medical Degrees) Order in Council, 1945.

(2) The Interpretation Act, 1889, shall apply for the interpretation pretation. of this Order as it applies for the interpretation of an Act of Parliament. 2. (1) There shall be constituted a Committee to be known as the University of Hong Kong Medical Degrees Emergency Committee, con- sisting of such persons as a Secretary of State shall from time to time appoint, who shall hold office on such terms as a Secretary of State may determine.

(2) One of the members shall be appointed by the Secretary of State to be Chairman of the Committee. In the absence of the Chairman for any meeting of the Committee the members present shall appoint one of their number to act as Chairman for that meeting.

(3) The powers of the Committee may be exercised at a meeting at which three or more members are present.

3. Notwithstanding anything contained in the Ordinance and the Powers of Statutes, the Committee shall have power to exercise, so far as they Committee. relate to medicine and surgery, the powers of the Senate under sub- paragraphs (2) and (4) of paragraph 1 of Statute 16 to determine what examinations and courses of study in other Universities or places of learning shall be deemed equivalent to examinations and courses of study in the University and to propose persons for admission to degrees, and to exercise the power of the Chancellor under paragraph 1 of Statute 3. to confer degrees. Any degree so conferred shall be deemed to have been conferred at a congregation of the whole University:

(1) the Committee shall exercise the aforesaid power of determination in relation only to examinations and courses of study which are
